Sometimes I feel overwhelmed because it seems like the world is constantly pulling at me to “do” everything. I think this is a pretty common feeling.
So what can we do about it?
The Stoics recognized this challenge, and they existed in a world where they weren’t under a constant barrage of influence attempts and information streams. Their answer was to seek clarity on the life you truly wanted to live and to use that clarity to say no… relentlessly… to anything that would derail you.
Let’s try it out.
I want to be healthy… say no to sugar.
I want to be wealthy… say no to frivolous spending.
I want to be wise… say no to mindless consumption.
Having this clarity in what you truly want from life allows you to have discipline in saying no to the things that will get in your way and leave you the time and space you need for the things you truly want (or need) to live the life you want to live.
