Each moment is a choice to live the life we want to live. We can’t change our choices in the past, but we can make a choice that helps us right now.
It is a trap to wallow in our despair about past choices when we can step out of the mud and the muck of our own making and walk a path of better possibilities.
I’m not saying this is easy. It might be the hardest thing you have ever done or will ever do. But I am saying it is worth the effort.
Let’s take basic self care as an example.
Sleep: Staying up too late three nights in a row isn’t stopping you from going to bed on time tonight.
Staying Active: Skipping your workout yesterday isn’t stopping you from lifting those weights today.
Eating Healthy: Yesterday’s indulgences aren’t stopping you from eating clean today.
Mental: Not taking the time to read yesterday isn’t stopping you from reading today.
Emotional: Not writing in your journal last night isn’t stopping you from writing in it tonight.
Social: Losing yourself in the depths of the internet yesterday isn’t stopping you from calling your friend and checking in today.
What is stopping you is the negative self-talk, doubt, critical thoughts, and negativity clouding your critical thinking and sound decision making. Hidden in there somewhere is something that sounds a lot like “I didn’t do it, so I must not be able to do it.” This simply is not true.
